What is StoryEscape?

StoryEscape is an online escape room that focuses on the multiplayer experience. We design puzzles that enhance a compelling story, while simultaneously creating a unique multiplayer dynamic, encouraging you and your friends to collaborate—or compete—together!

Which room should I play?

On the 'Stories' page, you’ll find descriptions of each story, accompanied by five icons that highlight key features. Hover over the icons to discover their meanings and choose the story that best suits you and your friends!

What languages are available?

Currently, our stories are available in both English and Dutch, with the best experience offered in English.

What do you need to play the story?

You’ll need one main screen visible to all players, where the story will be displayed. Optionally, the story can be narrated through this device using a sound system. Additionally, each player will need their own smartphone for personal information. All devices should have an internet connection.

How many players can join the game?

Each room has a minimum and maximum player limit. In some cases, roles may be doubled to accommodate larger groups.

How do I join a game?

Join the game on your smartphone by scanning the QR code or entering the code displayed on the main screen.

What if I get stuck?

In the unlikely event that you get stuck, you can request hints from the top right corner of the main screen. Simply click the question mark, then select "New Hint."

What if I lose connection during the game?

If you lose connection during the game, don’t panic! Take a deep breath, count to 10, and ask for help. Then, on the main screen, click the the group-of-people icon in the top right. Next, select 'Recover' next to the name of the disconnected player. You’ll receive a QR code for them to scan or a link they can use to rejoin the game.

Can we pause the game and resume later?

As long as you don’t delete your browser cookies, you can pause the game and resume it at a later time.

What if someone has to leave early?

Most stories require all roles to be filled, but if someone needs to leave, another player can take over their role. Just click the group-of-people icon in the top right of the main screen, select the 'Recover' option, and have the new player scan the QR code or use the provided link to rejoin.

Is there a timer during the game?

No, a timer is not built into the game. However, it is optional and for some stories it will be recommended in the introduction of the game.

Do we need a pen and paper?

While you’re welcome to use pen and paper if it helps with a puzzle, there’s also a digital option in the top right of the main screen if you prefer to save trees.

Do I need an audio device?

An audio device is not required. The story is available both in written form and narrated. If you prefer, you can turn off the narration through the settings menu in the top right of the main screen.

How long does a game take?

Our stories range in length from 45 minutes to 2 hours.
